For a Time Like This: Good Shepherd

A Music Podcast for the 4th Sunday in Eastertide

With this coming Sunday, May 3/2020, marked as "Good Shepherd Sunday" we thought it a good time to share two songs based on Psalm 23, written and performed by people from the saint ben's circle. First up is "Shepherd of Life" by Steve Bell. Originally released on his 1989 album "Comfort My People," this is a new acoustic version just recently recorded as a gift to his listeners during these hard days of the global pandemic. The second song is "Bound Up" by Jenny Moore. This song was recorded for a 2007 album of seven songs which she recorded for us just prior to her move to the UK. Incidentally, the readings for Sunday are Psalm 23 and John 10:1-10.

Shepherd of Life - Steve Bell

The Lord of life is my shepherd
He leads me with nothing to want
And He leads me along
With His staff and His rod
He is here to comfort my fears

Though I walk through the valley
I walk with His hand in mine
Thought I passed my last breath
In the shadow of death
But I’m still here
Safe on the other side

Here with the waters beside
Cool in the grasses I lie
Here with my Lord
Who gently restores
The Shepherd of Life

There’s a table laid out before me
There’s a cup in which joy overflows
Surely goodness and love
Will follow me all of the days
All the days of my life

Bound Up - Jenny Moore

This flock is groaning something bad;
We’re so good at turning back.
But we’ll be bound up,
We will be strengthened,
We’ll all be fed and we’ll be found.

This flock is hurting something bad;
We’re wandering out in this barren land.
But we’ll be bound up,
We will be strengthened,
We’ll all be fed and we’ll be found.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
We’ll be found.
