Praise the Father: a music podcast

A music podcast featuring Gord Johnson's song "Praise the Father" from the 1994 trio project Unlikely Icon, with Steve Bell and Larry Campbell. Given the song’s Trinitarian structure and theology, we thought it apt to release this podcast in the week following Trinity Sunday. This is the second song we’ve released in podcast format from the Unlikely Icon project, the first being “Tongues of Fire”, which went out last week.

The Unlikely Icon album was released as a companion CD to a songbook of original music, intended to allow church congregations access to some great songs for use in their own worship contexts. Included in this project are songs that have become staples in Steve Bell’s repertoire and standards in our own saint ben’s canon of music in our own liturgy, including “God Our Protector”, “Even So Lord Jesus, Come”, “Tongues of Fire”, and “Praise the Father”.

Praise the Father – Gord Johnson

Praise the Father, praise the Son,
praise the Spirit, Three in One
Who was and is and is to come
All praise and honour and glory and power,
O praise God’s name forever

Who is the One to whom you belong?
Who in your weakness has made you strong?
Who fills your heart with joyful song?
It is the Lord, your God

Who is the One Who for you died?
Was mocked and spat at and crucified?
Who rose from the dead and is glorified?
It is the Lord, your God

Who is the One Who with you will be?
From highest mountain to darkest valley?
Who is the One Whom in you dwells?
It is the Lord, your God
