Robert Capon on the Parable of the Man Who Had Two Sons

After listening to Robin Shugart's very fine sermon on the parable of the Prodigal from March 27, 2022, the work that Robert Farrar Capon did on the parables came to mind. Capon wrote three very fine books on the parables of the Kingdom, Grace, and Judgement, which were later published in a single volume titled Kingdom, Grace, Judgement by Eerdmanns. A good solid taste of that work on the parables is contained in this podcast. This audio of Robert Capon is drawn from Mockingbird, which in turn drew from a 2001 interview with Robert on the radio program 30 Good Minutes. We offer only part of the original interview here, with the full version available on Mockingbird.

A much younger Jamie Howison visits with Fr. Capon in 2000 on Shelter Island

We’d also recommend that you take a look at the Obituary for Robert Capon on Mockingbird, written by David Zahl. There you’ll find links to five more Mockingbird articles on Fr. Capon, as well as a video from a 2004 retreat.
